Exercising around hip discomfort
Hip pain can be a bit tricky b/c it can be back pain sometimes that gives you pain in the hip. In general, hip pain refers to the groin and back pain refers to the hip, unless it’s pinpoint pain on the outside of your hip. In this situation, it could be a bursitis that is aggravating your hip and anything that fires up your IT band can cause pain.Â
In the case of range of motion issues in the hip, please remember to limit the range of motion with aggressive exercise and work on this separately for at least a dedicated 10-20 minutes/day until you have full range of motion. This is best done with a physical therapist, in person. Â
Most importantly, be sure not to cause pain while exercising in your hip. This leads nowhere good. The fastest path to success with your exercise program is taking care of the weakest link first.
