Problems with balance or postural control
There are 3 areas that affect balance in your body. They are visual (sight), somatosensory (touch), and vestibular (inner ear.) With a deficit in one, it makes sense to learn to rely more heavily on the others. If you have a deficit in at least one or more, however, it’s a really good idea to see a physical therapist and learn some specific balance strategies to improve your coordination and reduce your risk of falls. Â
That said, extension is also fall prevention. Generally speaking, strengthening your glutes and emphasizing them in your exercise program will prove useful in improving balance. Core control is also very important, as this is much like the ‘center’ of your body.
